Employee Spotlight: Madelyn Lopez, P.T.A.

September 27, 2021

The Visiting Nurse Association of Florida (VNA) would not be able to provide our community members with quality home health care without our hardworking, dedicated, and passionate caregivers. Every day, they go the extra mile to provide exceptional care for our patients, ensuring they are as healthy and independent as possible. With that said, we are pleased to recognize and acknowledge our caregivers for their commitment to patient care.

Today we would like to honor Madelyn Lopez, Physical Therapy Assistant (P.T.A.)

We recently received a call from the daughter of one of Madelyn’s patients, Lilia. Lilia’s daughter wanted to make sure she let us know that they have had the BEST experience with Madelyn. “Earlier in the week when Madelyn came, my mother was not feeling well,” said Lilia’s daughter. “Madelyn took her vitals, assessed her, and immediately called the doctor. It turns out my mother had an infection. We are so very grateful for Madelyn and her caring performance!”

Madelyn has been a stellar member of our VNA family for almost 6 years. She says her favorite part about working for the VNA is the office staff accessibility and internal support. “I have had the ability to work with many wonderful therapists and nurses who genuinely care about our patients and are willing to go above and beyond as a team to ensure the patients receive the attention and care they need,” she says.

Madelyn also loves working one-on-one with her patients and feels great pride in knowing that she is helping others heal and recover. “I’ve had many proud moments with my VNA patients,” she says. “A proud moment in particular was when I was able to assist a young man after his motor vehicle accident. He never thought he would be able to [walk again] and he suffered from depression,” she says.

Yet after several therapy sessions, and lots of encouragement and patience, Madelyn helped this young man on his way to recovery. “He continued to work hard and he took his first steps outside of his home with me. He cried when the sun hit his face. It’s been almost a year and I still get updates from him and his mother about his progression,” she says.

When it comes to being a P.T.A. with the VNA of Florida, Madelyn believes she has found her calling. “I truly enjoy doing home health and being able to connect with patients on a one-on-one, professional and personal basis,” she says.

Madelyn has been married for 23 years and has an 11-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old son who is currently enrolled in Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. She also has two fur babies, a Yorkie and a Maltese. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her children, garden, cook, walk, and exercise—she has even participated in Body Building competitions!

If you or a family member are in need of quality home health care provided by professional and compassionate caregivers like Madelyn, please give us a call at 800.318.0399. We would love to help!
