STOP Stroke Society to Discuss Diabetes

STUART, Florida- The S.T.O.P. Stroke Society, a coalition of the Visiting Nurse Association of Florida together with St. Lucie Medical Center, PGA Golf Club and Lawnwood Regional Medical Center will be hosting a seminar about diabetes on Wednesday, September 23rd from 5 to 7:30 PM at PGA Country Club located at 951 S.W. Country Club Drive, Port St. Lucie. The Event will include a heart-healthy dinner and beverages, free specialized golf instructions by a PGA certified golf instructor, and activities for caregivers. The Mission of the STOP Stroke Society is to advocate for all stroke patients and their caregivers, and help with the recovery process through the use of education, awareness and compassion. STUART, Florida- The Visiting Nurse Association will be at the Spring Hill Branch Library to provide a free presentation on Healthy Aging through Fall Prevention from 10:30 am until noon on Friday, August 28th. The Spring Hill Branch library is located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Seniors fall in the safety of their home more than any other location and 1 in every 3 people will experience a fall in late adulthood. Up to 40% of these falls are easily preventable and this presentation teaches valuable methods to make home life safer by avoiding falls. STUART, Florida- Florence Nightingale Express arrives again in Fort Pierce on Wednesday August, 5 from 12:00pm until 4:30pm to aid the homeless in the community. The 38-foot mobile clinic will be giving care to those who would otherwise be forgotten due to their inability to pay. The big blue bus will be stationed at The Café Mustard Seed Homeless Clinic at 2001 Avenue D in Fort Pierce and the nurse practitioner and clinic coordinator aboard will be giving the homeless care that otherwise would not be received. “Florence,” as the bus has been nicknamed, comes with a fully equipped exam room that has given exceptional care to many people in need across the state of Florida, be it a physical for a sports team member or treatment to those in an impoverished community. The Visiting Nurse Association office located at 208 SE Park Street will host this presentation on Healthy Aging through Fall Prevention from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Thursday, July 30, 2009. This presentation on fall prevention instructs participants on efforts they should make to avoid falls in the home. More seniors are injured in the safety of their home than in any other location and this free presentation teaches valuable prevention methods to make your home safer. STUART, Florida- The “Florence Nightingale Express” mobile health clinic and her team arrive to give free health care and donate food to residents in need at the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid in Highlands County, from 9:00 am until noon on Saturday, July 25th. The fully functional clinic-on-wheels will provide health examinations and treatment for uninsured and underinsured patients. Employees at the Visiting Nurse Association have been collecting canned goods and other non-perishable food to be delivered to residents in this area who are in need of a little help. In conjunction with the First Baptist Church, the Visiting Nurse Association is pleased to be able to help community members meet their basic needs. STUART, Florida- Florence Nightingale Express arrives in Okeechobee to give sports physicals to students in the area. She will be in front of the VNA office at 208 SE Park Street from 11:00am until 3:00pm on a first-come-first-served basis. Staffed by a nurse practitioner and a clinic coordinator, this 38-foot mobile clinic comes with a fully equipped exam room that can be transported to those in need all across the state. “Florence,” as the big blue bus is affectionately nick-named, is funded by the Visiting Nurse Foundation; she and her team are devoted to advancing access to healthcare, and this trip takes them one stop closer on the road to assisting those in need.
