VNA Helps Collect over 600 Pairs of Socks for Donation

STUART, FL - VNA Transition Coordinator Laurie DeFeo wanted to find a way to give back to the community during the 2012 holiday season. After doing some research she decided to get involved with a Nationwide community service project known as Socks for Seniors. This not-for-profit program originated in Ohio and the outpouring of support for the cause has spread all across the United States. Laurie was able to register The Visiting Nurse Association of Florida as a drop off location and she challenged VNA employees, local Skilled Nursing Facilities, and Empower, VNA’s stroke support group, to donate as many socks as possible.
STUART, FL - Each Christmas season the Visiting Nurse Association of Florida selects two local families who need community support in order to provide their children with the happiness and joy they deserve on Christmas morning. This year, dozens of VNA employees joined together and generously donated new toys, clothes and other necessities so that each sponsored family could have a very special holiday. The gift program resulted in an overwhelming success. Pictured to the right, Marketing Manager Jen Crow gives gifts to one of the families on Christmas Eve.

LADY LAKE—The Visiting Nurse Association of Florida is holding its first-ever career fair today and Friday, seeking to staff the newest branch of its expansive organization, which already serves 17 counties across Florida.
“Thanks to the dedication of our nurses, caregivers and support staff, we’ve built a strong reputation for patient satisfaction on both coasts of South Florida as well as among the counties separating them,” said Jennifer Crow, communications director for VNA of Florida. “We’re excited about coming to Lake County and we’re confident our career fair will attract the talent that will grow into the team that serves as the foundation and future of the operation.”
The VNA of Florida Career Fair takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 14 and from 8 a.m. to noon June 15 at the 117 N. Highway 441 in Lady Lake. For information, applicants should call (352) 205-7585 or visit www.vnaflorida.org.

The vaccine is available at VNA office in Stuart. Appointments are necessary; please call the VNA of Florida at 772-286-1844 to schedule yours today.
The cost is $210.00 and must be paid prior to the administration of the vaccine. The vaccine is for adults only.
Shingles is caused by the Varicella Zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. Only someone who has had a case of chickenpox can get the shingles. Up to half of the nearly 1 million shingles cases in the U.S. each year occur in people 50 years and older.

On Saturday, January 28, 2012, VNA employees gathered in downtown West Palm Beach, FL to participate in the 21st Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure. Employees were asked to walk for 5 kilometers and raised $1493.00 for the cure.
Visiting Nurse Association of Florida employees joined the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes that was held April 14, 2012 at Flagler Park in Stuart, FL. VNA employees raised $2589.00.

But hard financial times forced him to face a fear many parents would find almost as daunting as his diagnosis: telling his daughter that Christmas—at least in the material sense—wouldn’t come to their home this year.

STUART — It was an emotional morning Tuesday at the Challenger School in Stuart when the school's former nurse helped present electronic reading equipment in memory of two students who died this year from their disabilities.
