The Visiting Nurse Foundation is funded by donations from former patients, employees, as well as events like the VNA Charity Golf Tournament. The foundation provides care and services to VNA patients in need of assistance. This assistance ranges from paying electric or pharmaceutical bills to building ramps and home modifications.

Updates

The Foundation received a request to help a Stuart Patient. He became a patient of the VNA  due to a leg wound. The patient was experiencing severe financial hardship. He receives $17 a month in food stamps and has no other source of income. To raise money, he tried to have a garage sale but was unsucessful. In addition, he missed his doctor’s appointment because he had no money for gas. The Foundation purchased $100 in Publix gift cards and a $50 gas card to help assist the patient in his time of need. April 2010

A young male patient in his early thirties was in need of pain medication. Due to his wounds, he was unable to return to work and was experiencing financial hardship. He lives in a small apartment less than or equal to the size of a large bathroom stall. The Foundation purchased the pain medication, helping alleviate the patient's discomfort. The cost of the medication was $17.99. April 2010

A Polk patient was experiencing financial difficulty due to his illnesses, which include Diabetes and lower leg wounds. The patient signed up for assistance from the State. Unfortunately, it was not approved in time. The patient’s electricity was shut off in mid March.  The Foundation called the electric company and paid the outstanding balance of $190 as well as the $15 reconnect fee so that the patient would have electricity. March 2010

A paraplegic Okeechobee patient was in need of a "Hi-Low" electric bed along with improvements to his wheelchair ramp.  The estimated cost for the two purchases is to be at or near $5,000. The Foundation was able to purchase the bed and make his wheelchair ramp safe and accessible.  September 2009
